There were joyous scenes on Thursday among students, many of whom are now heading to the country's most elite universties.

Five will continue their academic careers at either Cambridge of Oxford, including Hin-Tai Ting, who gained five grade As and said: "I am relieved more than anything."

His relief was echoed by Andrew Owusu-Agyei, who said: "I was a bit worried but am pleased and relieved. I am planning to do medicine at Cambridge."

Many students had taken a look on websites to discover some of their results before the school's official announcement.

Toby Rowland said: "You could check some on the internet but not all."

Toby was glad the weeks of tension since the exams are now over and said: "You think you did all right at the time but as time goes by you start to wonder."
