SUCCESSFUL Spalding Grammar School students celebrated in the summer sunshine, with almost half of the pupils gaining A or B A-level grades.
A grades were earned by 23 per cent of students and around 48 per cent gained A or Bs with several scooping straight As.

Pupils collected their all important envelopes from the hall on Thursday and celebrated outside with their friends.

Former head boy Paul Hilliar earned As in economics, maths and English and will study maths at the University of Sheffield.

He said: "I was very nervous but to get three As is incredible. I didn't expect that and I couldn't believe it when I saw it."

Mikaela Ashwell gained As in biology, chemistry and physics and will take a year out before applying to study veterinary science.

She said: "I am going to work as a volunteer in Namibia and then get a job to earn a bit of money before I go to university."

Headteacher Nigel Ryan said: "This was a very pleasing set of results reflecting the tremendous hard work put in by the students and staff over the past two years.

"It is especially pleasing to see so many of the students who were new to the school at the start of their A-level courses doing so well."

* Joanne Brocklesby earned A grades in maths, further maths and business studies and a B in chemistry and will go to Leeds to study maths. She said: "I am really chuffed.

* Tom Charnley will study law at Liverpool after gaining an A in law, B in English literature and B in history.

* Matt Hines will study psychology and criminology at Nottingham Trent University after gaining two Bs and a C and wants to join the police force.

* Mathematician Marc Flannery scooped As in maths, further maths and business studies and will head to the University of Sheffield to study maths.

He said: "I have always liked the subject and to top it off by getting three As is great."

* Emma Robinson will study the history at Royal Holloway, London, after gaining As in English, law and history.

She said: "My mum did history as part of her degree and she has always encouraged me."

* Fleet teenager Greg Smith gained As in maths, further maths and ICT and will head to the University of Birmingham to take a computer science degree.

He said: "To get three As is better than I was predicted."
