ALAN Biley says it may take half a dozen matches before his new squad clicks.

It followed obvious disappointment for fans when the Tulips failed to deliver on the opening day of the new season.

With a super volley from Andy Stanhope's cross, midfielder Paul Tocco had cancelled out Glapwell's opener, a tremendous low-struck shot from 25 yards by Michael Fox.

But just four minutes later the new-look defence, including Adam Jones, Steve Julian and Dan Holyoak, were guilty of backing off too far and Simon Wright took advantage to nab the winner.

Biley said: "The team worked hard at trying to play the way I want them to.

"We controlled the first 30 minutes and everything was going as well as it could do with all the new players.

"Then Martin Reeves got injured and we didn't close down as well as we should have."

Tulips: McShane, Jones, Allen (Tocco 54mins), Carey, Julian, Hurst (Holyoak 61mins), Stanhope, Miller, Ward, Wormall, Reeves (Kennedy 46mins). Subs not used: Blake, Roberts.

  • The future of Mark Angel at the Tulips looked bleak yesterday.

He did not turn up on Saturday after being told that he would not be in the starting line-up.

Biley said they had a disagreement over the player's fitness.

  • The Tulips are in league action at Loughborough Dynamo tonight (Tuesday).

Biley has concerns over Nicky Hurst (ankle), Martin Reeves (calf), Dan Holyoak (back) and Martin Wormall (back).

  • Davy Shepherd has gone on loan to March.

David Hone and Liam Jacques could also be loaned out.

  • The Tulips are home to Yaxley in the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday, August 30.

Yaxley beat Lincoln Moorlands Railway 4-3 last Saturday to set up the tie.
